Natural Edge Cherry Bowl
I have been working on a natural edge cherry bowl over the last couple wekends. I git the wood from an arborist near Madison back in October and blogged about that here. Along with the sycamore wood, I got one log of black cherry wood that was really green. I had cut a three bowl blanks off it and over Thanksgiving weekend had a chance to turn a natural edge bowl from one of them.
It was so green when I turned it that it was somewhat difficult to sand. Last Friday the weather was really nice so I spent an hour with the air-operated random orbit sander and worked remaining machining marks out of the wood, and then put a few coats of wipe-on polyurethane on it.
I don't believe that the bowl is totally dry yet. It has moved a little bit as it has dried and will continue to move a little more. I had t at a craft fair yesterday and it did not sell, so perhaps I will work on the finish some more after it has finished drying.
Anyway, here it is. I love the contrast between the sap wood and the heartwood on this piece. I hope you enjoy looking at it.
